Save The Island Night Lizards

Dear Boss,

At your request, I am providing you with this report on the selective breeding potential of the Island Night Lizard. Here is a complete classification for the lizard:

Kingdom Animalia
Phylum Craniata
Class Reptilia
Order Squamata
Family Xantusiidae
Genus Xantusia

The lizard has adapted to its environment quit well. Below are three main ways the Island Night Lizard has adapted to its environment.

v The Island Night Lizard has one of the most unique outer skin patterns among any other type of lizards in the world. It is colored so that it camouflages with its surroundings. The Night Lizard has not always been this color. When the species first came into existence, the epidermal layer of the lizard’s skin was a toasty brown with semi shades of white. Over the years, the night lizard has adapted and mutated its skin to become more of an army fatigue pattern so that it can blend in with its environment.
v The Island Night Lizard has also sharpened it’s eyes over the years. Starting off, the Island Night Lizard would only make its appearance at night. Scientist first thought that this Island Night Lizard was a nocturnal species until about 2 decades ago. The Night Lizard began to come out and search for food during the day. Scientist still to this day can not explain why, but now, the Island Night Lizards roam the earth both during the day, and at night.
v Appetite. The Island Night Lizard use to have strict appetite. It use to only feed on small insects and already harmed grasshoppers. Now, the Island Night Lizard has adapted to the California coast and it will eat anything. The food selection for the Island Night Lizard became very scares, so instead of going hungry, the Night Lizard began trying new things to feed on. The Island Night lizard prefers to eat things that are not already preyed upon. Changing their appetite made the Island Night Lizard live for a longer period of time.

I have chosen the Island Night Lizard to be to target of our selective breeding because it is a very unique and smart animal. It is currently in danger of going extinct, so I suggest we act fast! It is kind of hard to catch because they are very quick on their feet. We do not know exactly what time of the day to find them, so may I suggest we have two teams to create an all day search.

The Island Night Lizard habitat is very limited so we much travel to the coast of California if we want any luck at catching it. It stays on three main islands. If we get lucky, we can catch a handful of them and use them and don’t affect their population too much.

In planning this experiment, it has occurred to me that we may actually be able to add to the population of Island Night Lizards. This will really get us some media hype because we will be the first company to help a species get off the endangered species list!

I see a lot of benefits for this project. Not only will our name get placed on the scene, but we will help a beautiful species exist in this harsh world. Are you ready to take this to a new level? If so, we can get started ASAP. I can have three of my co-workers fly out to California immediately. Thanks for listening!
